We used to live in an era or we thought we lived in an era, where the digital revolution would allow us to embrace different ideas, different cultures, different people. It would expand our horizons, it would give us a view into different ideas and different worlds and in fact and it has but one of the consequences of that is that uh people are overwhelmed by this proliferation of bits of information. Some of it's interesting, some of it's not interesting, some of it's lousy, some of it's crappy um and there has been at a certain point a kind of retreat from information because it is so harsh and so uh out of context, so unframed and news organizations are finding that people are uh they don't want to watch the news at night. Kind of because they have a pretty good idea of what went on do they need more information? Sometimes they do. So mostly they don't. That's one of the reasons in my opinion for the success of something like Netflix because you can stream entertainment without the intrusion of advertising. You paid a monthly fee for it of course but it is a kind of relief from the assault of daily news.
